Come along with Danish award winning cookbook writer, publisher and photographer Sif Orellana and Gothenburg-based workshop-organizer Kajsa Jeppson on a full three-day intimate and inspiration-packed Christmas adventure and photography and visual storytelling retreat in beautiful Gothenburg, November 30th - December 3rd 2017. Gothenburg is Sweden’s second-largest city, a west coast port, with a modern and friendly small-town vibe and plenty of music, art, and fine food to explore.
We are so excited about this retreat and have put our hearts and souls into creating the most educational, inspiring and eventful program, that teach you how to create high-quality editorial content for magazines, blogs and books, take your photography and visual storytelling skills to the next level and give you a unique opportunity to network with colleagues from all over the world, while indulging in the best Scandinavian Christmas food and treats.
Throughout the workshop Sif Orellana will share her experiences and tool box with you on how she has managed to create, write and photograph twelve cookbooks, six of which have earned International awards. She will tell you about her workflow, teach you how to shoot evocative food photos, capture the soul of a location (both indoor and outdoor), tell captivating food & travel stories, and learn and develop new skills to grow as a photographer.
It is our goal to inspire and help you to create your own visual identity and “personal voice”. High-quality food & lifestyle photography is tricky, and we have created this workshop to share all our very best tips and tricks with you and load you with knowledge from the photographic industry.
LET'S CREATE A MAGAZINE TOGETHER
During the workshop we will build up the illusion that we are all part of an editorial department at an international magazine, FOOD & TRAVEL. The theme of the upcoming magazine is A SCANDINAVIAN CHRISTMAS TALE - a theme that the magazine wishes to cover from different angles through various features about Gothenburg, lifestyle, christmas traditions, local recipes, the people, interior decorations, Scandinavian design, beautiful corners, hidden treasures, and stories. Sif takes the roles of chief editor of the editorial department and guide each attendee in the choice of her angle of “A SCANDINAVIAN CHRISTMAS TALE”.
EXCURSIONS & CLASSES
Throughout the retreat we will invite you on a number of excursions, where we can both capture the soul of Gothenburg with our cameras and enjoy some good meals at handpicked local cafés and restaurants.
Each day during the workshop we will have classes and training sessions, where Sif will share her experiences within the photographic industry with you, teach you about styling, expression, light, trends, composition, use of props and backgrounds, editing and camera techniques. She will give you all the tools needed to bring your visual storytelling and photography to a higher level and help you transitioning from passionate amateur to a heart-driven successful professional. Please note that the itinerary may be due to small changes.
Christmas is a magical time in Gothenburg. The darkest time of the day is when the beautiful city shines its brightest. The three kilometre lane of light forms a dazzling thoroughfare from the Lilla Bommen harbour area to Liseberg Amusement Park. Beautifully lit façades, statues, trees and bridges create a wonderful festive atmosphere. Our home and the place we set down our suitcases during the workshop is at the coziest centrally located Hotel Bellora, where you can expect warmth, personality and passion. Our workshop location will be at a charming former spinning factory called "Spinneret" in Lindome, south of Gothenburg. It houses little shops and studios for artists, craftsmen, and designers, so this is heaven if you’re interested in interior decoration and design. You can read more her.
This course is aimed at anyone interested in food- and lifestyle photography - from the amateur bloggers to those looking to break into the industry on a professional basis, or even those who just love posting images of gorgeous food that they eat. Come and join us for an incredibly yummy and informative retreat in the most charming atmosphere you can dream of. We can’t wait to take you on this fairytale!
You will need to bring your camera - whatever you normally shoot food with is best. Some guests come with nothing but iPhones, others come with film cameras, yet others with point & shoots, and the majority with DSLRs. Bring also your laptop and tripod.
